About this experience

Rome keeps some of its most gripping history underground, and this tour takes you straight to it with an expert guide and round-trip transport from the city center. You start among the bone-lined chapels of the Capuchin Crypts, where the remains of generations of friars form haunting displays, then ride out along the ancient Appian Way, passing the Aurelian Walls and the Circus Maximus. Underground again, you follow dim corridors through one of Rome's early Christian catacombs, tracing frescoed chambers and tombs once reserved for martyrs and popes. Your guide fills in the stories behind each site, so you leave with a real sense of how the early Christian world took shape beneath the city.
